About the Role
The Criminal Division of the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Washington is currently seeking term attorneys to handle the investigation and prosecution of immigration and immigration-related offenses. This announcement is for two (2) available vacancies. The duty location will be made at the time of selection, either Seattle, WA or Tacoma, WA. As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement.
What You'll Do
- →The Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in the Criminal Division pursue prosecutions for violations of federal law that occur within the District.
- →Criminal Division AUSAs advise federal law enforcement agents on criminal investigations, present criminal cases to the grand jury, try criminal cases before the United States District Court, and at times represent the United States in appeals before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
- →The positions will be assigned primarily to the investigation and prosecution of immigration and immigration- related offenses.
- →Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progresses.
- →The attorneys hired for this position may be located in either the Seattle or Tacoma office.
- →Applicants should state their preference of office location in the cover letter.
- →Further, any applicant hired for a position to be located in the Tacoma office should anticipate spending a significant portion of their time working at the Seattle office.
- →Regular travel between Tacoma and Seattle is required for all employees, as needed for casework and additional training.
- →These are three-year term positions not-to-exceed September 30, 2029, which may be extended or made permanent without further competition at the election of the United States Attorney and subject to funding availability.
- →Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
- →Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication.
- →This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
- →In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- →Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
