About the Role
Alvin C. York Veterans' Administration Medical Center, Murfreesboro, Tennessee is currently recruiting for a Nursing Assistant / Medical Unit 1A The Nursing Assistant functions as a member of the nursing care team and assist licensed nursing staff in the care of patients/residents receiving preventive, acute, sub-acute chronic, maintenance, and hospice care.
What You'll Do
- →This position involves a multi-grade career ladder.
- →The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-5.
- →At the GS-3 and GS-4 grade levels, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence.
- →You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-5.
- →Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance.
- →Performs activities of daily living and provides a range of care that contributes to the Veteran's treatment plan, recovery, and wellness under the direction of a licensed health care provider.
- →The NA will care for patients/residents with acute to chronic conditions.
- →This includes serving as a preceptor to new NAs by assisting with the coordination of their orientation and overseeing/assessing their practical experience while in a clinical setting. -Ability to recognize and react to emergent patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance.
- →For example, recognizing need for basic life support, controlling bleeding and assisting with behavior crisis.
- →Experienced at performing aspects of nursing care to meet patient'/resident needs for: - Personal Hygiene - Physical Comfort - Activity, Exercise, Rest - Nutrition - Elimination - Prevention of Skin Breakdown - Rehabilitative Aspects of Care The NA provides direct care for complex Veterans.
- →Makes observations of changes in resident's condition, i.e. behavior shifts, mood, skin coloring, appetite, vital signs etc. and takes action accordingly within the NA's assigned role and alerts the appropriate members of the health care team.
- →Sets up patient care related equipment, such as oxygen delivery systems, portable and wall suction and assisting in monitoring proper functioning of equipment.
- →Utilizes glucose monitoring machine to collect glucose values when needed and refer deviations to appropriate nursing staff or other health care provider promptly.
- →Participates in maintaining a clean, safe environment for the patient/resident and staff.
