About the Role
The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) is currently recruiting for a Staff Physician, Interventional Pain Specialist.
What You'll Do
- →This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT & will remain open until October 30, 2026 or until positions are filled.
- →Eligible applications received will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur.

- →The Pain Specialist requires appropriate time mapping and resources to ensure they are empowered to meet expected proficiencies in administration, clinical practice, education, and research.
- →Administrative: Writes Medical Orders and prescriptions for non-controlled and controlled substances, as necessary, for the care of the patient in accordance with Federal and State law.
- →Documents care provided in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) in accordance with CTVHCS requirements.
- →Documents the detailed, targeted, initial history and physical examination required for evaluation in the electronic tool(s) required by VA.
- →Obtains consent and documents procedures performed for which the Pain specialist is responsible.
- →Provides education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
- →Review and revise policies and scope of practice/standards of operation to meet the needs of the National VA and CTVHCS mandates.
- →Review and guide protocols in chronic patient managements including coordinating efforts with prosthetics department to meet patients' needs and maintain fiscal responsibility.
- →Clinical: Responds to and completes consults received for the evaluation of Pain, including: Performs a comprehensive, detailed, targeted, initial history and physical examination in compliance with national guidelines.
- →Orders diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, X-rays, MRIs, electromyography (EMG), electrocardiograms (EKGs) and other tests.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
