About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
What You'll Do
- →Join a dedicated team within the Surgical Care Service at the Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS).
- →The Urologic Staff Surgeon routinely performs outpatient and inpatient Urologic surgery examinations, determines diagnoses, and initiates treatments based on Urologic surgery education and standards of care.

- →Position duties for an Urologic Staff Surgeon at VA Phoenix include but are not limited to the following: Diagnose and treat medical and surgical disorders using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care.
- →Responsible for initial evaluation and overall workups, history & physicals, and admission of Urologic surgery patients as needed.
- →Clinical duties include but are not limited to Operating Room (experience in wide variety of standard Urologic surgical procedures and operations including cystoscopy and fiberoptic cystoscopy), in-patient rounds, Emergency Room and Outpatient Clinics.
- →The Urologic surgeon will be able to perform a wide variety of Urologic surgical procedures.
- →May supervise residents as well as medical students who rotate through the Urologic Surgery Service.
- →Will participate in Urologic surgery night call and perform emergency surgical procedures.
- →Responsible for providing patients with education concerning their disease state and treatment regimen.
- →Will complete all electronic, clinical, daily charting and documentation required by the Medical Center in a timely manner as appropriate.
- →Consult with Medical Center staff on many patient care issues.
- →Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
