About the Role
This position is located in the Facilities Management Service of the VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties and responsibilities will include: Provides technical assistance and guidance to remote customer locations and less experienced locksmithing personnel.
- →Advises service and facility leadership on developing key plans for VA medical centers and community programs according to OSP and CFM physical security programs.
- →Collaborates with Police Service's Physical Security Specialist to ensure all key plans comply with physical security program regulations.
- →Does not make independent key decisions; seeks final approval from service leadership and the Chief.
- →Installs, repairs, maintains, and modifies a wide range of commercial locking devices (doors, desks, safes, vaults, compartments, mobile equipment, electronic access control systems, and secured areas).
- →Disassembles, repairs, cleans, reassembles, and reinstalls complex locking devices; modifies doors for new locksets as needed.
- →Provides expert advice and recommendations to management regarding appropriate locks/systems based on security requirements.
- →Suggests, designs, and installs master key systems when appropriate to streamline key use and increase office efficiency.
- →Designs and installs custom locks and integrated locking systems to meet special requirements and management needs.
- →Increases security by modifying keyways and blanks to create locally unique key combinations.
- →Maintains expert knowledge of locks, hardware, and regulatory requirements through training, trade journals, catalogs, and manuals.
- →Maintains all required records related to locksmithing activities.
- →Troubleshoots malfunctioning lock components, repairs by reworking existing parts, and understands internal structure and operation of various lock models.
- →Determines precise drilling locations to open locks without damaging mechanisms or contents.
