About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

  • The BHIP-CC Supervisory Social Worker is part of the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP), a team based general mental health program which delivers veteran-centered, recovery-oriented, and evidence-based care.
  • Duties may include but are not limited to: May be assigned complex cases and provide coverage of assigned social workers' caseload on an as-needed basis.
  • Responsible for making decisions regarding work problems presented by subordinate social workers.
  • The incumbent collaborates with others in negotiating, deciding upon, and/or coordinating policy changes affecting BHIP or other programs.
  • Makes selections for supervisory and non-supervisory positions, hears group grievances and employee complaints, reviews disciplinary cases (i.e., those proposing suspensions and removals), and disciplinary problems involving key employees.
  • Develops procedures and ensures the implementation and achievement of the provision of social work and care coordination services to patients on BHIP teams.
  • Develops and monitors standards of clinical practice/standards of care for BHIP-CC, including development of care guidelines, manuals, and guides to professional practice.
  • Develops consistent standard operating procedures required to accomplish clinical care interventions and ensures that they are followed.
  • Makes recommendations for recruitment of staff and ensures responsibilities for orientation and continuing education of staff.
  • Evaluates and consults on the BHIP-Care Coordinator role in various clinics.
  • The incumbent manages and directs BHIP-CC social work activities within the BHIP teams, including interventions to resolve administrative problems and participates in program evaluations.
  • Will brief Psychology Service and Mental Health Leadership orally and in writing on a regular basis concerning matters related to assigned sections in order to provide information required to make effective decisions for program planning.
  • Serves the Medical Center at large in a variety of capacities, such as committee assignments, investigations, personnel matters, and special projects.
